Naoji Yubuki

TEM Technician

Naoji has joined the Bioimaging facility as a TEM technician in August 2021.

Naoji has a B.A in Biology from Konan University in Kobe and a MSc and PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Tsukuba in Japan. He came to UBC Vancouver to work with Prof. Brian Leander in the Departments of Botany and Zoology as a post-doc and a research associate. Later he moved to Prague, Czech Republic as a junior researcher to work with Profs Ivan Čepička and Vladimír Hampl in Charles University. Then, he worked in Université Paris-Saclay, France with Drs. David Moreira and Laura Eme as a postdoctoral fellow. Through his academic career, he focused on the evolution of ultrastructure in unicellular eukaryotes (protists), especially on the microtubular cytoskeleton providing compelling evidence for inferring phylogenetic relationship of whole eukaryotes. During his years of experience, he has developed a diverse knowledge of sample preparation and imaging techniques for transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
